Home Visits, Video Consults, Weight Checks, & Classes: COVID-19 Update

Good afternoon!

During this crazy time, I will continue to give frequent updates of what is going on at Healthy Babies, Happy Moms and all the ways we are still safely providing for our patients. So far, our entire staff has been healthy. Our office remains closed with our administrative staff working from home. If you call the office, you will still get Shelley or Chloe, who will take care of your needs - book an appointment, arrange for you to get your pump, or pass a message to the RNs. Our RN/IBCLS continue to see all patients in their home for the first visit, if that is what the mother wants. We will wear a mask and gloves when with all patients. We are also fully capable of virtual consults if that is preferred. We started virtual consults last week and it is working really well. Unless there is a concern about the baby’s weight, all follow ups will be done virtually via Zoom video conferencing. Our RNs will determine the best course of action based on your situation and communicate that with your pediatrician or OB.

In addition, we started offering weight checks in our office this week, as an option for mothers who are concerned about their baby’s weight, but want to limit their baby’s exposure and avoid their pediatric practice. This service is going to have to replace our Support Group for the time being! We will provide these on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9-10:30am. We are booking appointments in 15 minutes increments. We ask that Moms weigh their baby, report the weight to the RN on duty, and then leave, as we are trying to minimize contact between patients. If it is determined that there is an issue based on the baby’s weight, a follow up lactation consult will be scheduled and the pediatrician will be notified.

As we did last week, when registering a new patient, we will ask the 4 COVID 19 screening questions and the answers will be noted in your chart. If you are positive, we will still see you, but just need to gown, glove and mask during the appointment. We are committed to making sure you are all able to get the care you need during this difficult time while practicing strict infection control and adhering to the mandated guidelines.

We are in the process of making all our classes virtual, so that we can continue our current schedule. Please check out our FB and Instagram pages for ideas of how to entertain your little ones while stuck at home. We also believe we will be considered one of the essential businesses in the event that there is a state lockdown, and will keep operating in this way unless told otherwise. I remain hopeful that this health crisis will be a time when our country realizes our many strengths and bands together for the collective good of all of us. Please know that we at HBHM are here for you and your baby and will make sure you have the support you need. Stay healthy and safe, and call us if you need us!
