Hey Mama, Let’s Talk About Postpartum Wellness!

We know the postpartum period is a whirlwind of emotions, changes, and to-do lists that never seem to end. You’ve just done something incredible—brought life into this world! But along with all the joy, your body has been through a lot, and it deserves some extra love and attention.

That’s where pelvic floor physical therapy (PT) comes in. You might be wondering, “Do I really need this?” Let’s break it down.

Why Pelvic PT Matters for Moms

Pregnancy and childbirth are monumental experiences for your body, especially your pelvic floor. This group of hardworking muscles supports your bladder, bowels, and uterus—and it’s been stretched, strained, and challenged in ways you may not even realize.

Did you know your pelvic floor muscles work like a hammock? They stretch between your sit bones from side to side and from your pubic bone to your tailbone, carrying the weight of your baby for about nine months. That’s a lot of hard work! Just like your neck and back might feel strained from feeding (we can help with that too 😉), your pelvic floor deserves some much-needed TLC.

Whether you’re feeling fine or noticing things like:

  • Peeing a little when you laugh, cough, sneeze, or run

  • Constipation that just won’t quit

  • Back, hip, or pelvic pain

  • Pain during sex

  • A heavy sensation “down there”

...pelvic PT can make a world of difference.

Even if you don’t have symptoms now, addressing your pelvic floor health postpartum can help you avoid potential issues down the road. (Yes, even years later!)

What Happens in Pelvic PT?

Here’s the good news: Pelvic PT is for every mom, whether you’ve had a vaginal delivery or a C-section.

  • Had a vaginal birth? We focus on rebuilding strength and addressing any tears, strain, or symptoms like incontinence or prolapse.

  • C-section mama? We’ll help with scar tissue healing, core strength, and ensuring your abs and pelvic floor are working together again.

Even if you feel great right now, PT is like hitting the “reset” button for your body. It’s about recovery, prevention, and feeling like yourself again—maybe even better. Not to mention, pelvic physical therapy is also helpful during pregnancy in the second and third trimester (if you’re blessed with another child in the future!)
